Kagamine Rin - HIKIZURI

Your steaming hot portion of Friday fun has arrived! This is a special from our chief, Utsu-P. The serving includes: brutal guitar sound, mid-tempo for extra chunkiness, gut-wrenching breakdown, Rin-chan trying to dance in the middle of the dish and a pair of chopsticks. Enjoy yourself!

Waya-waya!

Hikizuri is a kind of kimono with very long skirt trailing on the floor. It’s worn by maiko (lit. ‘female dancer’), young geisha apprentices.

Sakura again - cover by Gahata Meiji

Just to balance things a little and to take an alternative point of view, here is another Eve’s song cover. Sakura again, a stunning chiptune/screamo cocktail, is a bit less renowned than ‘[L]una’ but hardly less appealing. And UTAU takes its turn now, no one else but VMW-affined Gahata Meiji (Meiji being ‘mage’ in Nippon; so naturally transforms to ‘witch’ ;) ).

The cover was made by Wacky for the 3rd UTAU works festival. Job well done! I must say Meiji’s clear and bright vocals can challenge Miku easily. Well, except for the extreme parts. I admit I adore shrills made by Eve, but here Meiji’s overcompressed noises are killing everything :) As for the usual ‘human vs software vocals’, the choice is yours to make. Needless to say, VMW made its choice a long time ago :)

[L]una - cover by Daygoro

Absolutely mind-fucking-blowing vocal cover of Eve's '[L]una' by Daygoro. Two things to mention. First: Eve pitches his Mikus outrageously high. Second: never underestimate human abilities.

Kagamine Len - Other ONE

Len Kagamine is not a frequent a guest on VMW, so this new work by NexDart is rather welcomed. Quite light but solid piece.

Wait, is there another twin?.. ;)

GUMI - Light and Shadow

An update from Chariot The Tuneful circle, their first in 2016. The guys behind the circle are knot (music) and Meiden (lyrics and visuals). To say the guys are awesome is to say nothing; their previous tracks are among the sickest and boldest the scene ever created!

For now Chariot The Tuneful takes it down a notch. ‘Light and Shadow’ doesn’t dive into the bottomless abyss of ever increasing brutality. Still it boasts exceptional sound with roaring guitars and fast tempo. Chariot’s songs have that subtle (and sometimes not so) feel of madness, and ‘Light and Shadow’ develops it in its own way. Now Gumi takes some part in it too and she does it excellently!

Can’t say why but I find this vaguely disturbing…

Kagamine Rin - stainless moon

A long time ago in a galaxy… :) I mean, some of you may even remember an old song with the same title, sung by Kamui Gakupo and released in summer 2009 when Vocaloids still were a thing. On Youtube it even scored 185,000 views which is not that bad. Despite its kinda rock-ish character, VMW doesn’t recommend it because it’s not br00tal enough it doesn’t pass our rigorous selecting criteria. Well, it seems after seven years an absolutely unrelated track by Kyokutan-P will finally eclipse its unworthy namesake!

'stainless moon' begins as a promising progressive metal, sadly,  Kyokutan-P drops the idea too early. Anyway, even without prog it is a fast, energetic breed showing fair diversity. Oh, and the track features one of the sexiest ride cymbals I’ve heard for a while :) Enjoy!

A peaceful death - album review

Seven months. The pace chosen by Okame-P (Calvi Taro) for releasing new full-length albums. The pace that surely must evoke reactions like 0_o , ‘Whoa!..’ and maybe a few short strong-worded praises. On a personal level there’s more than that, here is a confession: VMW is officially envious of Calvi-sama’s productivity. I mean, like, this very blog only managed to post 9 updates on the same time span :p And my other personal achievements are even bleaker…
