GUMI - Oxygen

A debut work by SUISO laboratories. ‘Oxygen’ is a blissful hard/j-rock song featuring vivid GUMI’s vocals as well as a bit over the top instrumentals :) Enjoy!

GUMI - Living a Lie

A perfection in simplicity: the latest song from ensou is built so solid you won’t find a single flaw. The sound is absolutely delicious! The bass drums. Deliver. Punch. BOOM!  ;) Guitars are not so punchy (why would they?) but they put their weight rather well too :) Top this with  GUMI’s edgy voice and you get some pretty killer song!

GUMI - Hadashi no season

A little bright hard rock piece by Issun, one of the several tracks the producer uploaded has uploaded on Nico recently. Hope you like it :)

GUMI - Jormungand

A dose of wild and ferocious djent from Rusan Maruchino. The sound is heavily infused with electronics, cool job. Finally, finally Gumi’s lyrics are of the darkest shade of angst! ;)

Don’t Regret - album review

Great releases keep coming from Russia. We should thank Sander-P (or Alexander Pivnev if you prefer real names) for the latest one. It took eight months of work – hard work, to be sure – but the outcome proves to be worth the time invested.

GUMI - Light and Shadow

An update from Chariot The Tuneful circle, their first in 2016. The guys behind the circle are knot (music) and Meiden (lyrics and visuals). To say the guys are awesome is to say nothing; their previous tracks are among the sickest and boldest the scene ever created!

For now Chariot The Tuneful takes it down a notch. ‘Light and Shadow’ doesn’t dive into the bottomless abyss of ever increasing brutality. Still it boasts exceptional sound with roaring guitars and fast tempo. Chariot’s songs have that subtle (and sometimes not so) feel of madness, and ‘Light and Shadow’ develops it in its own way. Now Gumi takes some part in it too and she does it excellently!

Can’t say why but I find this vaguely disturbing…

A peaceful death - album review

Seven months. The pace chosen by Okame-P (Calvi Taro) for releasing new full-length albums. The pace that surely must evoke reactions like 0_o , ‘Whoa!..’ and maybe a few short strong-worded praises. On a personal level there’s more than that, here is a confession: VMW is officially envious of Calvi-sama’s productivity. I mean, like, this very blog only managed to post 9 updates on the same time span :p And my other personal achievements are even bleaker…

GUMI & Hatsune Miku - Asylum

Moe-P-san has showed up on Nicovideo with one of their work, ‘Asylum’, which was released on Piapro half a year ago. The one thing you need to know is that the song is epic. Its epicness shines even through the horribly screwed up mixing! But let minor technicalities not distract us, for it’s really prime example of good post-hardcore. Though the most interesting thing that caught my attention is distorted vocals. Moe-P uses quite a distinct technique which makes screaming rasping and, well, a way closer to ‘natural’ sound.

Deadly Melancholy - EP review

This one came out unexpected. I mean, what did Scythe of Luna (formerly known as Corthax; even earlier known as Cherryleaf) have in their assets besides the habit of changing their name frequently? One (just one!) Vocaloid song heavy enough to be of VMW’s interest, ‘Insomnia’. Released a year and a half ago. Still too much synthetic, too 8-bit-ish and too unconventional from trVe die-hard metal point of view but appealing anyway.

Not that much, I’d say. Sure, there were another releases, all pure electronic, so that hardly matters. But now all of a sudden we have ‘Deadly Melancholy’, an EP, 6 tracks and 27 minutes of intense sound, and now it totally matters! The EP was released under Vocallective label, and guys there swear they pushed release dates of other albums to clear the road for ‘Deadly Melancholy’ – so much they were impressed by it. Heh, I’d discount their words, record label is a cheesy business… still, for good music the sooner we get it, the better!

ALGORITHM - album review

The much anticipated, long-awaited new album from Utsu-P is out, and if that’s not gross enough event to kick VMW out of termless hibernation then I don’t know what is! :)

Unlike the previous release, “Warufuzake”, which was recorded under the ‘traditional industry’ ‘big label’, this album falls back into the category of indie titles. Doujinshi, if you somehow prefer Nippon over English. So, basically, all that means just there has been less hype over it this time. Honestly, hype hardly can make good music sound better, and hype around bad music isn’t a proper thing at all...
”Algorithm” was presented at 86th Comiket, the venue being the very essence of doujinshi subculture. Moreover, Utsu-P explicitly refers to “Algo” as the fourth his album, with the third being “Moksha”. So “Warufuzake”, despite being a ‘commercial breakthrough’ etc., is disregarded as a mere spin-off from the circle MY SONG IS SHIT. And this circle should still be considered the main form for producer’s creative work. At least for the music from the heavier side of spectrum.

GUMI - One Side Lost

Excellent musicpiece from ninigi project! Bold and dynamic hard’n’heavy with some naughty metalcore accents. And Gumi to breath life into this. So don’t be fooled, nothing is lost here! :)

GUMI - Serenity

I can't say that the title says everything about the music, but it suits it undeniably. From tranquil piano intro to the final chords - the song keeps its distinct style. Yunyunsae-san has created compelling atmosphere, and Gumi is one of its key elements. This work is a remastered version of the song that Yun posted a year ago (with Luka’s vocals). Strangely enough, that version has vanished and cannot stand before our critical eye. My wild bet the reason is Yun’s ashamed how’s the old version sounds compared to the new :) Why, perfect always was the enemy of the good :)

The mixing is done by our old friend ensou.

GUMI - Kazari

I feel overwhelmed. The sound flows through me like electricity through a wire. And I’m the happiest wire in a whole universe…

Fuck, guys, what are you doing to me?..

GUMI - Tonin toshoku

Mighty heavy metal from Hell-P (lyrics by Kubi-nashi shikkusu). Gumi sounds lovely but we know she’s capable of more! :) Also, the chaos of voices in the middle of the song can easily drive you to insanity :) You’ve been warned.

According to folklore, cats were(/are) monsters capable of transforming into more terrible monsters capable of terrorizing families for generations through deception and burning things (+/- zombies). Thusly, someone who "puts on a cat" (or wears a cat-mask, I suppose) is someone who is putting on an air of placidness that hides a terrible potential for going wild”.

GUMI - Jishou shousha to soreigai

A beautiful song by ninigi project. The project’s works are rather diverse, this time it’s stylish and jaunty grunge. It’s smooth and fit, and made with such natural simplicity that can only be a sign of great mastery. Easy guitars and bass lines in verses are just made specially for bringing out Gumi’s vocals. And that’s for the good. Because Gumi is striking. Gumi is brilliant. Gumi is out-fuckin’-standing. Why, we need so little to be happy! :)

GUMI & Nekomura Iroha - Anomaly Gold

The guys from I DO Loud project cheer us with another awesome song! “Anomaly Gold” is a heavy/speed piece, vigorous, bright and energetic. The guitars are exceptional, thanks to aniroku-san who performs the lead part. And the girls are even better! Both Gumi and Iroha sound eager, passionate and just charming... The only obvious drawback: the song is too damn short… :(

GUMI - traveler

An excellent piece by Jiwataneho. The song will be released on “Honesty Will Never Break You” compilation, of the circle “I DO Loud’, and will be distributed on 28th Vocaloid M@ster event.
The composition is slow-paced and lyrical. Solid Gumi’s voice and clever guitars’ line with a lot of contrast parts make this song a real masterpiece.

IA & GUMI - Eye

Nice heavy metal piece from k1mu. I wished the producer to outstrip “Dream Theater” back in January, but he seems to move in another direction :) Wait, k1mu claims he made the first version of the song three years ago and this is a remake, but the first version wasn’t published probably. Damn, three years ago IA didn’t even exist! :) And this may explain ‘another direction’ ;)

A duet again, but IA is the only Vocaloid my ears can recognize here, Gumi must be used only in a chorus. Oh, and IA’s vocals sound pretty enough! The song features mighty guitars and is kinda overweight with electronics, considering the genre, but still the whole work is very robust.

Metsu zai shou xen - album review

Psycho Assemble Laboratory (猟奇アッセンブル研究所) project was formed in the middle of 2012. The main creative force behind it is two Japanese (bet you are not surprised :) ) musicians: shikka (失華) and 88IO. The guys claim there is a persistent enmity between them but I believe you shouldn’t take it seriously :) Although this may help to understand the album deeper :)

The album was released on 3rd VOCALOID Paradise event in Kyoto on March, 2nd. “Metsu Zai Shou Xen” (滅罪生善) could be translated as “Atonement for good life”. It is the first full-size album of the project. About a year ago a demo was released, “Gozou Mashimaro”. The current album contains all songs from the demo, some of them remastered.

There are 14 tracks total (if we'd count 3 ‘instrumental’ intros), and 48 minutes of music. But that would be kinda inaccurate statement, because the music on the album is _different_ , and it could be divided into three parts. Two larger ones – let’s say 18 minutes and 24 minutes :) – and a smaller chunk. First, let’s talk about the two main parts. As you may have puzzled out already, the division is the result of the difference in two producers’ music style.

GUMI - Ame sakura

I’m in a light mood today… If you are too, then try this little gem of a song by RUHIA (Wasabi-P). The sound is right from the late 1960-s :) Bright, engaging and just irresistible piece :) Gumi’s voice has some nice roughness here, which somehow makes me think that she has been boozing through all the night. :) I’m a spoiled man, I know ;)
