Hatsune Miku - Shigonosekai

An interesting piece by 417-san. The producer has been inactive for a loooooong time – the previous work was posted in 2011! So it is a comeback, and it is a damn great comeback!

The song has quite unusual sounding, with some roots in alternative rock. The bass line is no less but epic, especially the impressive bass guitar. The percussion is developed well enough too. With hollow echoing effects and supported only by bassu humming, Miku’s vocals are the leading part. Well, it hardly could be otherwise, because high pitching makes Miku a real challenge for those not accustomed to typical Vocaloid squealing :) Anyway, the melodies are splendid and are incorporated into the music with great skill.

But the music video deserves no less attention than the music itself. First, a few words on the character. 417 tells us it’s a sort of hybrid of Hatsune Miku and Kuuko, named (surprise, surprise!) Hatsune Mikuuko. If you don’t know who is Kuuko then you better stay unaware try to read this, understand everything from the first time and keep your sanity intact.

Actually, character’s background is hardly needed for watching, because the video is nothing else but SHAMELESS ONGOING FANSERVICE ONSLAUGHT. Yeah, I don’t remember anything even remotely as explicit as this ever been on VMW… Have never imagined VMW will turn into Miku’s tits content junkyard :)))

Everyone knows nude Miku is better than Miku in some stupid native costume.

GUMI - Guitar Hero

An engaging, if a bit troll-ish, song by Rascal-san. The producer seems to throw in the pot everything he thinks worthy enough, and the whole jumble sounds oddly attractive. The shift from rock’n’roll to nu metal in the beginning belongs to fucking Hall of Fame! :) Some tricks aside, this could be described as hard rock with a pronounced Japanese flavor. Smart work with Gumi vocals makes this song really splendid.

Hatsune Miku - Kara kusari

Songs that stand out by their maverick spirit are always welcomed on VMW. One of such is a recent piece by ice-san. “Kara kusari” is a thoughtful and fluent alternative rock, sounding fresh as a lemon-juice-vodka cocktail and stylish as a fucking catwalk model before she’s gulped three portions of it. Speaking of chic bitches, Miku’s singing is just awesome. Ice-san has made an excellent contrast of calm parts with bright outbursts in choruses.

And again we see eggs in the video. Someone, please explain me what’s wrong with eggs in Japan? :)

Kasane Teto - Kinen hajime mashita

An excellent piece from tahi_bassist. It’s industrial/alternative metal, beautiful in its straightforwardness, fresh and quite energetic. The mix quality is awesome, with juicy distorted guitars and some accents on original bassu character. The guitar solo is far above the level of the broader industrial scene, to say the least.

The title translates as “I quit smoking”, and the song draws from the recent experience of tahi_bassist himself. Be strong, man! :) At least your decision’s yielded a nice song, which is a gross achievement! :) Teto, despite lacking any capabilities, sounds robust enough. She is being helped by Hakaine Maiko, who’s splendid (as always), and Ritsu (though I haven’t managed to find any traces of him ;) ).

Kagamine Rin - Horizon

An excellent, spirited and even touching song by Jan=Junkyard. For a debut work, it is amazing. “Horizon” is a light-hearted grunge, smooth and engaging. Jan-san has notable guitar skills. Drums parts are made with a great talent too. Still there is a little drawback: Rin sounds a bit muted, losing ground to the lead guitar. It seems that their frequency ranges overlap somehow, and lead guitar is loud here… Nevertheless, Rin tries to shock us with her outstanding abilities in Engrish. Fuck, Rin, c’mon… I mean I’m shocked, of course, but… ehh… just don’t… save our ears…

GUMI - Kogoeru sora ga, gekijou ni somaru toki

“Kogoeru sora ga…” is a track from the same-titled album by Minazuki Jun. The CD was released at Comiket 85, some two weeks ago. The song seems to have the most alternative sounding of all the album’s tracks. It tears the listeners’ nerves with dissonant chords and odd melodies. Gumi’s singing adds to the overall depressed atmosphere. Speaking of bright spots (which is quite odd in this song’s case), I should mention the stunning sounding of lead guitar. It is tense, dramatic and passionate, binding the daunted mood of the music. The mixing quality is great too.

Hatsune Miku - Akusei doguma suuhai

Nontrivial works continue to come into VMW’s view. This time the song disproves the rule that when you mix up uncommon ingredients you end up with some sort of chimera. Love and skill make miracles, guys, and “Akusei doguma suuhai” is a nice example of that. It is lightweight, dainty and smooth fusion paying little respect to genre definitions. The only certainty might be the general ‘oldie’ spirit of the song.

Virtually everything sounds perfect here. Miku’s doing her job well too. Her parts are quite tricky yet she makes it awesomely bright. Great work, Anyaho-san!

Some details make me believe that this is Hatsune Miku. For instance, the tag on Pixiv…

Kagamine Rin - Esora

What does a typical Kagamine birthday look like? A typical Kagamine birthday usually means that Nicovideo is virtually stormed by a striking amount of videos featuring the twins with eyes big as a saucers and overall kawaii level overloading my sensitive kawaii-meter. The music is… eh, typical as well (see, I can be subtle when I want to :) ).

In such a hostile for every sentient person environment, a new work by “Ratai-no-Silhouette” certainly comes as a breath of fresh air. For starters, the video uses 0 (zero) Kagamine Rin’s images. Given all that kawaii spree around, it is a fucking breakthrough! But VMW is yet not posting videos basing on Rin’s presence there only. So yes, “Ratai-no-Silhouette” are kicking asses again with what I loosely define as alternative rock. The music is a fine balance between dense, heavy rock and more lyrical melodies, between ‘classic’ elements and more uncommon features. The latter is seamlessly incorporated into the overall soundscape, which is usually hard to achieve. So the guys show us their mastery. The guitar parts are the core here.

And of course, where we’ve started, we should end. Kagamine Rin, the hero of the day (sorry, Len ;) ), confirms by her singing that the whole turmoil was worth it. So, ehh… Happy Birthday, Rinny?! :)))
