IA - Yaroujidai

An interesting sound from Babao. Plain 1980-s, british hardcore/post-punk, I was quite surprised! :) Some prog is present too. Of course it’s that prog, from that era… Can’t say whether living fans of this music still exist… ;)

The title translates as

Wait, wut?!

Hatsune Miku - Urotaeru shinzou to gunjou shigari ni nari chi kasu siren ga hidoku urusakatta

Fresh rock by Eight-san. The song, besides horribly long title, has novel character, and both novelty and character are very impressive. By a large degree this is Miku‘s achievement. Her perky vocals could hardly be considered sounding lifelike but a sheer intensity of her temper will convince everyone!

Hatsune Miku - Lost alive

Seldom can the song boast its own unique character. Most times it’s not by any mean unique; sometimes there isn’t even a character to speak of. “Lost alive” is one of those scarce pieces that are REAL in that sense. It hasn’t to crank up the pace; it hasn’t to lean to something familiar to you… It owes nothing to you. It is a thing of its own, complete and beautiful.

Lemo-san combines aptly gentle acoustic parts with the unleashed force of distorted guitar riffs. Quite unexpectedly, Miku seems to sound most convincing on the former background. I suppose that’s the side effect of her tender personality… :)

GUMI - Shuu ware

The debut Vocaloid work of MADCAP20, made of the purest grade of awesomeness. I haven’t heard such a classy rock for quite a while! The title translates as ‘Prison breaker’, I suppose. The song features plain yet extremely pretty guitar line, skillful (if a bit shy) bassu and, of course, charming Gumi’s vocals. Everything is mixed great, so you’re just enjoying great music…

Kagamine Rin - Horizon

An excellent, spirited and even touching song by Jan=Junkyard. For a debut work, it is amazing. “Horizon” is a light-hearted grunge, smooth and engaging. Jan-san has notable guitar skills. Drums parts are made with a great talent too. Still there is a little drawback: Rin sounds a bit muted, losing ground to the lead guitar. It seems that their frequency ranges overlap somehow, and lead guitar is loud here… Nevertheless, Rin tries to shock us with her outstanding abilities in Engrish. Fuck, Rin, c’mon… I mean I’m shocked, of course, but… ehh… just don’t… save our ears…

Rin’s legs. Just Rin’s legs, period. Fuck, why am I keeping staring at this?.. :/

GUMI & Hatsune Miku - Recall

A song from the Light side of the Force again. If you crave for something heavier, I have to remind you of Master Yoda’s words: “Patience you must have, my young padawan”. Well, in fact, Master had a low opinion on the Dark side:

Speaking of expensive hustlers, not a long time ago I was hanging in a bar… Huh? The song? What song? “Recall”? Ahh, yes, of course, the song, almost forgot about it… ;)  Well, the track, made by Aki-san, is an easy, vibrant and adorable piece of music, closer to rock’n’roll, but with its own distinctive mark. Everything is done masterly, especially the drums part. But what struck me most is Hatsune’s singing. Guys, I hadn’t believed my ears first! The chorus might be impaired by overpitching vocals up, but the verses are splendid. Gumi’s nice too, but I somehow get used to her fine vocals in other works. Miku, though, is a real shocker here.

Never, NEVER EVER try to do this with your iPhone. Most likely you’ll end up with splintered pen. The fuck with the pen, you could easily injure your hand.

Kagamine Rin - Esora

What does a typical Kagamine birthday look like? A typical Kagamine birthday usually means that Nicovideo is virtually stormed by a striking amount of videos featuring the twins with eyes big as a saucers and overall kawaii level overloading my sensitive kawaii-meter. The music is… eh, typical as well (see, I can be subtle when I want to :) ).

In such a hostile for every sentient person environment, a new work by “Ratai-no-Silhouette” certainly comes as a breath of fresh air. For starters, the video uses 0 (zero) Kagamine Rin’s images. Given all that kawaii spree around, it is a fucking breakthrough! But VMW is yet not posting videos basing on Rin’s presence there only. So yes, “Ratai-no-Silhouette” are kicking asses again with what I loosely define as alternative rock. The music is a fine balance between dense, heavy rock and more lyrical melodies, between ‘classic’ elements and more uncommon features. The latter is seamlessly incorporated into the overall soundscape, which is usually hard to achieve. So the guys show us their mastery. The guitar parts are the core here.

And of course, where we’ve started, we should end. Kagamine Rin, the hero of the day (sorry, Len ;) ), confirms by her singing that the whole turmoil was worth it. So, ehh… Happy Birthday, Rinny?! :)))
