NexDart has
made another take on his song ‘Coward’, this time employing V flower as vocalist
(initially it was Len). I think flower’s version has more character, so try it
out!
Another
latest release featuring Megurine Luka – Nihil by shatehouu. This EP got 4
tracks. The style is mostly post-hardcore with some metalcore sound here and
there. Fast tempo and quite intense music coupled with lyrics full of angst
(suddenly! :) Luka sounds quite good here. Check it out!
Listening
to TREASON//REASON album by idoyklik. One of the greatest releases of
2016! Atmospheric music with some prog influences. Made with taste and talent.
Production is also good. Definitely recommend!
While the new
song from Vocaloid post-hardcore guru Okame-P may be slightly inferior to‘Reminiscence’
in the vocals field, it manages to beat the late Shichiya’s track in energy
content and definitely overwhelms it in terms of emo. It’s fucking emo Godzilla,
no less! Besides, since when have we started to care about the quality of
Vocaloid singing? ;)
Nice and
energetic emo piece by Shichiya-san. Miku’s vocals deserve special mention:
they show remarkable upgrade compared with previous producer’s works and sound
unbelievably good!
A beautiful
(as always) mellow post-hardcore arrange from Yokomin with beautiful (as always)
Yukari’s vocals. What’s new (at least for me) is Yokomin himself singing along
with Yukari too. Why, the guy has great voice :) I could even say Yukari and
Yokomin-san match together so well! (insert some sweet emoji here)
Last but
not the least, today’s Yokomin 22th birthday! VMW wishes the producer lots of
joy, even more energy and for all even wildest his dreams to come true! We
believe in you, man! :)
A debut
work of “A Range of Style” project lands somewhere between post-hardcore and
heavy metal and feels good enough. Moreover, there’s MetaLuka – a failproof
choice! :) Great start, guys, congratulations!
Now moving
to more serious matters. Not exactly grave matters as the title may suggest –
those frigging emos like to exaggerate everything, but still it’s a piece from
Okame-P, and the guy knows his business. This time Okame-P tries to drown you
in a flurry of synths, with strange sound effects adding to the experience. The
song was written somewhat earlier and was considered for the producer’s second
album ‘Lamento’. The reasons why it was dropped remain unclear, but the song
would fit the overall sound of ‘Lamento’ as perfectly as it could ever be.
For a
warm-up, let's take a look at the new tune from Mode-san. Well, it’s really
warm (and old-skool) for post-hardcore. Also, it’s post-hardcore about a ninja.
Because emo ninja is totally legitimate concept! ;)
Miku has katana in her right hand, wakizashi in her left hand and, naturally, zettai ryouiki somewhere in between. The question is: which is more dangerous? :)
A beautiful
lyrical ballad by Nora and Ram. A lot of melodic acoustic guitar play, quite a
little heavy distorted parts… And Lily who sounds surprisingly good (now that’s
a real marvel ;)
This,
gentlemen, is definitely the weirdest audiovisual experience I’ve encountered
in a while. Mere words cannot stand up to this psychedelic inferno. Proceed
with caution.
Just to
balance things a little and to take an alternative point of view, here is
another Eve’s song cover. ‘Sakura again’, a stunning chiptune/screamo cocktail,
is a bit less renowned than ‘[L]una’ but hardly less appealing. And UTAU takes
its turn now, no one else but VMW-affined Gahata Meiji (Meiji being ‘mage’ in
Nippon; so naturally transforms to ‘witch’ ;) ).
The cover
was made by Wacky for the 3rd UTAU works festival. Job well done! I must
say Meiji’s clear and bright vocals can challenge Miku easily. Well, except for the extreme parts. I admit I adore shrills made by Eve, but here Meiji’s
overcompressed noises are killing everything :) As for the usual ‘human vs
software vocals’, the choice is yours to make. Needless to say, VMW made its
choice a long time ago :)
Absolutely
mind-fucking-blowing vocal cover of Eve's '[L]una' by Daygoro. Two things to
mention. First: Eve pitches his Mikus outrageously high. Second: never
underestimate human abilities.
An update
from Chariot The Tuneful circle, their first in 2016. The guys behind the circle
are knot (music) and Meiden (lyrics and visuals). To say the guys are awesome
is to say nothing; their previous tracks are among the sickest and boldest the
scene ever created!
For now
Chariot The Tuneful takes it down a notch. ‘Light and Shadow’ doesn’t dive into
the bottomless abyss of ever increasing brutality. Still it boasts exceptional
sound with roaring guitars and fast tempo. Chariot’s songs have that subtle
(and sometimes not so) feel of madness, and ‘Light and Shadow’ develops it in
its own way. Now Gumi takes some part in it too and she does it excellently!
The first
video of KeitA (instrumentals) and T3 (lyrics). The song was released earlier
on Piapro, it’s a nifty attempt at grunge being squeezed into post-hardcore
shape. The best part of it is juicy sound of guitars, the bass support is
particularly impressive. Miku, on the other side, seems to be rather shy…
Junto
Kurokawa, the man who authored some deliciously sick songs in the past, is back
with another Vocaloid release. I wish we heard new stuff from him more often, one
song in twelve months is damn too little! Hell, even VMW updates more
frequently! ;)
More
importantly, it’s not hip-hop this time. Seriously, who’d wish to hear hip-hop
more often? No, ‘Ensei’ sets new highs in the deliciousness and sickness of the producer’s sound. Make no mistake, it
is prime djent, one-string-picking-abusive and boasting of down-tuning beyond
any rationality :)
Yuzuki
Yukari seems to be hardly moved by all of this, sounding a bit cold and
distant. Yukari performs for the third version of the song. The first one was
released a long, looong time ago, in May 2008. You won’t find it or the second
version anywhere on Nicovideo or on the producer’s website. The most likely
reason? They were not sick enough! ;)
Moe-P-san
has showed up on Nicovideo with one of their work, ‘Asylum’, which was released
on Piapro half a year ago. The one thing you need to know is that the song is
epic. Its epicness shines even through the horribly screwed up mixing! But let
minor technicalities not distract us, for it’s really prime example of good post-hardcore.
Though the most interesting thing that caught my attention is distorted vocals.
Moe-P uses quite a distinct technique which makes screaming rasping and, well, a
way closer to ‘natural’ sound.
This one came out unexpected. I mean, what did Scythe of Luna (formerly known as Corthax; even earlier known as Cherryleaf) have in their assets besides the habit of changing their name frequently? One (just one!) Vocaloid song heavy enough to be of VMW’s interest, ‘Insomnia’. Released a year and a half ago. Still too much synthetic, too 8-bit-ish and too unconventional from trVe die-hard metal point of view but appealing anyway.
Not that much, I’d say. Sure, there were another releases, all pure electronic, so that hardly matters. But now all of a sudden we have ‘Deadly Melancholy’, an EP, 6 tracks and 27 minutes of intense sound, and now it totally matters! The EP was released under Vocallective label, and guys there swear they pushed release dates of other albums to clear the road for ‘Deadly Melancholy’ – so much they were impressed by it. Heh, I’d discount their words, record label is a cheesy business… still, for good music the sooner we get it, the better!
There are
many reasons why we should count Okame-P among the most notable producers of heavier
Vocaloid scene. But there is a reason of special value: his clear and steady
devotion to the music. And this devotion brings quite concrete results. Very pleasing results, to be sure. Of course, I’m talking about Okame-P’s new
web release ‘Dreaming Colors’.
It’s the
third web album from Calvi Taro, and it comes surprisingly quickly after the
2nd – ‘Lamento’, which was released in January this year. But upon glancing on
the tracklist I was even more astonished. Of 13 full-fledged songs, only a
couple was previously published on Nicovideo! And Okame-P’s Nico channel boasts
[starting counting hastily…] yes, another 13 absolutely new tracks and one
rearrange since February. Now that’s an impressive pace, gentlemen! Well, seems
Calvi himself didn’t expect this productivity too :)
