Hatsune Miku - Meian mirai

For the sake of variety, here’s some pop-punk by Karute-san. Good pace, nice bass, vivid Miku’s vocals… Refreshing, isn’t it? :)

Hatsune Miku - sleeping beauty

No, this track seems to be unrelated to ‘Sleeping beauty’ made by 164 back in goode olde 2008 which was somewhat popular at the moment. The producer of today’s song, lovin-san, labels his piece 'dark fantasy hard rock’. While I wholeheartedly agree with ‘hard rock’ part, and maybe even with ‘fantasy’, I can’t feel any specific ‘darkness’ in it :) Anyway, the song has decent production compared with the majority of Vocaloid hard rock works.

Seriously, what do you mean by ‘dark’?

Hatsune Miku - Koibito isonshou

A beautiful arrange from Emi Ele (lyrics by Clear). Heavy metal base with some prog aspirations as well as definite J-flavour all over it. Despite Emi Ele isn’t completely satisfied with Miku’s vocals, I find them pretty decent, clear, strong and, well, charming. That high pitch is irresistible! :)

Hatsune Miku - If you were here

While the new song from Vocaloid post-hardcore guru Okame-P may be slightly inferior to ‘Reminiscence’ in the vocals field, it manages to beat the late Shichiya’s track in energy content and definitely overwhelms it in terms of emo. It’s fucking emo Godzilla, no less! Besides, since when have we started to care about the quality of Vocaloid singing? ;)

So basically for the first half of the video you’re staring at her skirt… :p

Hatsune Miku - Reminiscence

Nice and energetic emo piece by Shichiya-san. Miku’s vocals deserve special mention: they show remarkable upgrade compared with previous producer’s works and sound unbelievably good!

Hatsune Miku - Yoi-Yoi

This piece of mid-1970s hard rock may not fit VMW standards in terms of sound heaviness but it more than compensates it in another important area. Namely, awesomeness. ‘Yoi-Yoi’ is literally overloaded with awesomeness in every its moment! And we should thank the virtuous vocalist for the great part of it. Ninihi-sama truly makes wonder with the power of Miku’s ‘Yoi-Yoi’! :)

Hatsune Miku - Funeral of my heart

Now moving to more serious matters. Not exactly grave matters as the title may suggest – those frigging emos like to exaggerate everything, but still it’s a piece from Okame-P, and the guy knows his business. This time Okame-P tries to drown you in a flurry of synths, with strange sound effects adding to the experience. The song was written somewhat earlier and was considered for the producer’s second album ‘Lamento’. The reasons why it was dropped remain unclear, but the song would fit the overall sound of ‘Lamento’ as perfectly as it could ever be.

The difference between trve emo and some superficial stuff is the absence of zettai ryouiki and A LOT of black blotches ;)

Hatsune Miku - Shinobi is Alone

For a warm-up, let's take a look at the new tune from Mode-san. Well, it’s really warm (and old-skool) for post-hardcore. Also, it’s post-hardcore about a ninja. Because emo ninja is totally legitimate concept! ;)

Miku has katana in her right hand, wakizashi in her left hand and, naturally, zettai ryouiki somewhere in between. The question is: which is more dangerous? :)

Hatsune Miku - Kisou gou

Okame-P-sama. Blows Up. Your. Mind. For those who still have their mental abilities (relatively) intact while listening to this picoreamo porn, try to count the number of different music genres crammed into this one song :)

Miku seems to be unmoving (and yes, she’s awesome). Well, she’s android; that explains everything… :)

Don’t Regret - album review

Great releases keep coming from Russia. We should thank Sander-P (or Alexander Pivnev if you prefer real names) for the latest one. It took eight months of work – hard work, to be sure – but the outcome proves to be worth the time invested.

A peaceful death - album review

Seven months. The pace chosen by Okame-P (Calvi Taro) for releasing new full-length albums. The pace that surely must evoke reactions like 0_o , ‘Whoa!..’ and maybe a few short strong-worded praises. On a personal level there’s more than that, here is a confession: VMW is officially envious of Calvi-sama’s productivity. I mean, like, this very blog only managed to post 9 updates on the same time span :p And my other personal achievements are even bleaker…

Hatsune Miku - Sakura kotoba

A beautiful arrange by JP-san. Progressive rock, yummy-yummy, bright and flashy, caring more for flamboyance than for integrity. The most amazing part is Miku keeping pace effortlessly with all this royal turmoil. Now that’s something worthy of respect! ;)

Zettai ryouiki is so powerful, not a single law of physics can stand against it! ;)

Hatsune Miku - RiA

The first video of KeitA (instrumentals) and T3 (lyrics). The song was released earlier on Piapro, it’s a nifty attempt at grunge being squeezed into post-hardcore shape. The best part of it is juicy sound of guitars, the bass support is particularly impressive. Miku, on the other side, seems to be rather shy…

GUMI & Hatsune Miku - Asylum

Moe-P-san has showed up on Nicovideo with one of their work, ‘Asylum’, which was released on Piapro half a year ago. The one thing you need to know is that the song is epic. Its epicness shines even through the horribly screwed up mixing! But let minor technicalities not distract us, for it’s really prime example of good post-hardcore. Though the most interesting thing that caught my attention is distorted vocals. Moe-P uses quite a distinct technique which makes screaming rasping and, well, a way closer to ‘natural’ sound.

Hatsune Miku - Hito yo hito yo ni yumeutsutsu

OK, now I know playing djent at half speed is a good idea. Well, ‘Hito yo…’ isn’t djent strictly, but it’s the closest thing if you add up folk metal (at half speed too) and acoustic guitar sound. Yes, I’ve used the words ‘djent’ and ‘acoustic sound’ in the same sentence, what a heresy! :)

But c’mon, who cares? ‘Hito yo’ is a really nice piece with tight bass and solid atmosphere. Miku fits just perfectly. Besides, Miku is our religion, what heresy are you talking about? :)

Deadly Melancholy - EP review

This one came out unexpected. I mean, what did Scythe of Luna (formerly known as Corthax; even earlier known as Cherryleaf) have in their assets besides the habit of changing their name frequently? One (just one!) Vocaloid song heavy enough to be of VMW’s interest, ‘Insomnia’. Released a year and a half ago. Still too much synthetic, too 8-bit-ish and too unconventional from trVe die-hard metal point of view but appealing anyway.

Not that much, I’d say. Sure, there were another releases, all pure electronic, so that hardly matters. But now all of a sudden we have ‘Deadly Melancholy’, an EP, 6 tracks and 27 minutes of intense sound, and now it totally matters! The EP was released under Vocallective label, and guys there swear they pushed release dates of other albums to clear the road for ‘Deadly Melancholy’ – so much they were impressed by it. Heh, I’d discount their words, record label is a cheesy business… still, for good music the sooner we get it, the better!

Dreaming Colors - album review

There are many reasons why we should count Okame-P among the most notable producers of heavier Vocaloid scene. But there is a reason of special value: his clear and steady devotion to the music. And this devotion brings quite concrete results. Very pleasing results, to be sure. Of course, I’m talking about Okame-P’s new web release ‘Dreaming Colors’.

It’s the third web album from Calvi Taro, and it comes surprisingly quickly after the 2nd – Lamento, which was released in January this year. But upon glancing on the tracklist I was even more astonished. Of 13 full-fledged songs, only a couple was previously published on Nicovideo! And Okame-P’s Nico channel boasts [starting counting hastily…] yes, another 13 absolutely new tracks and one rearrange since February. Now that’s an impressive pace, gentlemen! Well, seems Calvi himself didn’t expect this productivity too :)

MMD Cup 15 - Canon-san ga doramu otataite kuremashita

A worthy work from the late MMD event that basically shows us Miku sweating at the drum kit. And she’s trying it quite hard - since it’s prog metal, and prog tends to be frustratingly demanding for poor drummer souls. Oh, but it’s also good prog blasting on so we have pretty engaging show to watch!

No, really, we rarely see Miku performing that particular way, and I suddenly caught myself craving for more ;) Why, she is a literal drum machine! :) Only with pigtails. And barefoot. In fact, she could as well be the sexiest drum machine in our pathetic world! If this isn’t enough reason to watch the video then what else?! ;)

The track is “Peppered cancer” played originally by Bobby Jarzombek. Yes, he played it barefoot too. No, it’s far cry from Miku. Because of reasons above. You have been warned ;)

ALGORITHM - album review

The much anticipated, long-awaited new album from Utsu-P is out, and if that’s not gross enough event to kick VMW out of termless hibernation then I don’t know what is! :)

Unlike the previous release, “Warufuzake”, which was recorded under the ‘traditional industry’ ‘big label’, this album falls back into the category of indie titles. Doujinshi, if you somehow prefer Nippon over English. So, basically, all that means just there has been less hype over it this time. Honestly, hype hardly can make good music sound better, and hype around bad music isn’t a proper thing at all...
”Algorithm” was presented at 86th Comiket, the venue being the very essence of doujinshi subculture. Moreover, Utsu-P explicitly refers to “Algo” as the fourth his album, with the third being “Moksha”. So “Warufuzake”, despite being a ‘commercial breakthrough’ etc., is disregarded as a mere spin-off from the circle MY SONG IS SHIT. And this circle should still be considered the main form for producer’s creative work. At least for the music from the heavier side of spectrum.
